C-C-Changes, or Radio Clash Live is dead, Long live Classic Bootleg Radio!

It’s been over two years since I started Radio Clash Live – the first incarnation of RCL came online via AirTime on 5th March 2013 – and it’s be a mad ride. Given the fact that I stopped the Radio Clash podcast last year, and other people ended their mix projects (notable exception: Ian Fondue with Lloydbrary, still going strong!) it seemed right to kill Radio Clash Live! Sad but the group effort didn’t really catch on, and if I’d known I’d be the only ‘live’ person on RCL, I’d never have called it Radio Clash Live! Seeing the Live part made me cringe for the last part of a year…

But from the ashes comes a new thing, phoenix like…I present to you – Classic Bootleg Radio! Same stream, same links, but part of the Bootleg Archive iniative.

From now on, all the tunes you hear on CBR are 100% classic bootlegs, mashups, bastard pop, mixes and NO talk – all pre-2007, so a lot of exclusives, forgotten dusty party starters, but all classics! No schedules, no boring blather from me, just 24/7 tunes.

I need to either rebuild or rebrand this site, or pull it – I dunno…but if you want to know more about the Bootleg Archive currently go to the Facebook page…especially if you have pre-2007 mashups to upload/share.

RIP Essexboy & Bastard! show tonight 9pm

In honour of Grant Essexboy (RIP), podcaster and bootlegger extraordinaire, there’s a show tonight on Radio Clash at 9pm-00:30 BST called Bastard! Many bootleg memories, some of his bootlegs too, no talk just many bastard pop gems and a classic Superchunk from soundHog. Complete retro nostalgia of the early mashup scene (pre 2005) but given the situation (Grant was one of the bootleggers and DJs part of GYBO and regular at the Bastard club) it seems appropriate, amd maybe some of you will learn some mashup history! 😉

New Beastles on the way

Excited that dj BC has dropped a new Beastles track, there’s a new Beastles album on the way…and we’re hoping to bring you an exclusive on that 😉

Instamatic – Push Groove (Salt n’ Pepa vs Dee-Lite)

One of the featured mashups on the station has a new(ish) video – Push Groove by Instamatic (Salt n’ Pepa’s ‘Push It’ vs Dee-Lite ‘Groove is in the Heart’). Simple, yet effective, the video was created for Kleptonite in London. You can hear this and other mashups, remixes and re-edits on Radio Clash Live, as part of the Mix @ 6 and between shows.

New playlist additions…

In between the mixes we rotate mashups, songs we love and various covers and originals.

New this week are:

  • Pom Deter – Call Me A Hole – featured in the inaugural RCL broadcast, it’s since gone over 1 million listens and is viral as fuck. And Pom is lovely and was already interested in doing stuff for RCL which he might do in between the helicopters and the whores and the cocaine…but we knew him well before the fame, his mashups have been featured on Radio Clash for years 😉
  • Midnight Beasts – Fuck the Harlem Shake – well it is SO tired, and went down a storm on the 1st live broadcast, so it’s a cert. It’s also a good song too…catchy!
  • Digital Debris – added the old shows from Tim’s Radio Clash – more experimental, but we’re all about that mashup of radio styles and music. There are rumours of new dd coming soon, if it arrives it’ll be part of the Radio Clash slot (9:30pm GMT weekdays, 8:30am Sundays)
  • Skee-lo and Clyde – DJ Y Alias JY – not new but new to us, played on the 1st broadcast also, it’s from the excellent Bootlegs.Fr Je Deteste Serge Gainsbourg mashup album.

We also have new mixes from Joel Crookes (Notre Jam – 11:30pm GMT weekdays/2am Sundays) and Solcofn (A Little Bit of Sol, 2am GMT/10am & 11pm Sat) who has done a special Radio Clash Live 2 and a half hour mix and Ian Fondue has reopened the Lloydbrary (4:445am/8:15pm GMT Weekdays) for number 14, 15 soon to follow.
