C-C-Changes, or Radio Clash Live is dead, Long live Classic Bootleg Radio!

It’s been over two years since I started Radio Clash Live – the first incarnation of RCL came online via AirTime on 5th March 2013 – and it’s be a mad ride. Given the fact that I stopped the Radio Clash podcast last year, and other people ended their mix projects (notable exception: Ian Fondue with Lloydbrary, still going strong!) it seemed right to kill Radio Clash Live! Sad but the group effort didn’t really catch on, and if I’d known I’d be the only ‘live’ person on RCL, I’d never have called it Radio Clash Live! Seeing the Live part made me cringe for the last part of a year…

But from the ashes comes a new thing, phoenix like…I present to you – Classic Bootleg Radio! Same stream, same links, but part of the Bootleg Archive iniative.

From now on, all the tunes you hear on CBR are 100% classic bootlegs, mashups, bastard pop, mixes and NO talk – all pre-2007, so a lot of exclusives, forgotten dusty party starters, but all classics! No schedules, no boring blather from me, just 24/7 tunes.

I need to either rebuild or rebrand this site, or pull it – I dunno…but if you want to know more about the Bootleg Archive currently go to the Facebook page…especially if you have pre-2007 mashups to upload/share.

Radio Clash Live Live Live tonight at 9:30pm – Pop Is Dead 2

Tonight (9:30pm-11:30pm BST, repeated 4am Sat), on the live broadcast I’m going to sock it to the record industry with the long-awaited return of the Pop Is Dead show – the second part is called Arseholes & Repetoire and includes the likes of XTC, Kinks, Nick Lowe. Sound of Sha’Bass, Fall, Bonzo Dog Band, Crumb, Sage Francis, Bruce Haack, Clash, E40, My Drug Hell, Stan Freberg, Stark Effect to name a few!

The last 30 mins of every live show will be exclusive to the stream, either as a History of Mashups show or just ‘Radio Clash Xtra’…not on the podcast, not anywhere else – tonight if I get it prepped in time will be History of Mashups 9 – James Brown.

Miss Cyberpink – Strangeword video

If you’ve been listening to the station you might have heard some of the Parkade shows, or original ‘Radio Clash Live’ shows – and indeed mention of Amanda Shinji aka Miss Cyberpink. Well one of her great but criminally overlooked mashups is ‘Strangeword’ – a combination of ‘Depeche Mode’s ‘Strangelove’ vs Cameo’s ‘Word Up’ – on paper an odd combination but works so well in reality.

So I’ve created a new video for it, which you can see above, and it’s playlisted on Radio Clash along with the exclusive Push Groove (which has gotten the thumbs up from Lady Miss Kier herself!) which we posted about a few days ago. So if you listen you might hear this and other classic mashups modern and old between shows!

New playlist additions…

In between the mixes we rotate mashups, songs we love and various covers and originals.

New this week are:

  • Pom Deter – Call Me A Hole – featured in the inaugural RCL broadcast, it’s since gone over 1 million listens and is viral as fuck. And Pom is lovely and was already interested in doing stuff for RCL which he might do in between the helicopters and the whores and the cocaine…but we knew him well before the fame, his mashups have been featured on Radio Clash for years ūüėČ
  • Midnight Beasts – Fuck the Harlem Shake – well it is SO tired, and went down a storm on the 1st live broadcast, so it’s a cert. It’s also a good song too…catchy!
  • Digital Debris – added the old shows from Tim’s Radio Clash – more experimental, but we’re all about that mashup of radio styles and music. There are rumours of new dd coming soon, if it arrives it’ll be part of the Radio Clash slot (9:30pm GMT weekdays, 8:30am Sundays)
  • Skee-lo and Clyde –¬†DJ Y Alias JY – not new but new to us, played on the 1st broadcast also, it’s from the excellent Bootlegs.Fr Je Deteste Serge Gainsbourg mashup album.

We also have new mixes from Joel Crookes (Notre Jam Р11:30pm GMT weekdays/2am Sundays) and Solcofn (A Little Bit of Sol, 2am GMT/10am & 11pm Sat) who has done a special Radio Clash Live 2 and a half hour mix and Ian Fondue has reopened the Lloydbrary (4:445am/8:15pm GMT Weekdays) for number 14, 15 soon to follow.

Radio Clash Live inaugural broadcast finished!

Thanks everyone who dropped by – remember to tune in 24/7 – the schedule is here I hope my 2 hour mix of Kleptones aka Eric Kleptone, ben soundhog, Ian Lloyd/Fondue of the Lloydbrary, Julien DJ Frogg and Lee Prince 10000 Spoons (and a shout out and Fuck The Harlem Shake for Defunkto aka Shiggi). And PomDeter for his amazing NIN/Call Me Maybe mashup which also got played.

The US repeat of the show will happen for the US/late night people during the 2am-6am Radio Clash slot on Saturday morning GMT – which is something like 8pm-12am CST (before summertime kicks in and we all get really confused) – I’ll schedule it towards the end of the show for those on the west coast.

Listen to Radio Clash LIVE!

Still sorting out the blog, but if you want to listen to Radio Clash LIVE try these links:

High Quality Stream M3U – should work iTunes, Winamp, VLC – if it doesn’t try the Shoutcast link, it seems to work best but is lower quality – Songbird will prefer this link though.
Low Quality Stream M3U – should work in TuneIn Android app, as well as good players mentioned above. Again Songbird might prefer this one.
Shoutcast 128kbs stream – this should work for all those players that are a little, well, dumb.

Note that some players might prefer you to just put in what’s called the Icecast mountpoints, so try http://listen.radioclash.com:8000/streamhigh and http://listen.radioclash.com:8000/streamlow instead – these play in the browser on the latest Safari, Firefox and Chrome for instance. It even works on a Pure Internet radio – add the full M3U link as a Custom Station in Pure Connect.

Or click on the player below, it’s Flash and HTML5-friendly depending on your browser.
The launch is on Wedneday 9:30pm 6th March GMT/UTC when Tim from Radio Clash will do a special 2 hour mix.
